The Throat Chakra: Creating Space for Your Truth

There’s a moment in practice where things shift.

Not physically. Not even mentally.

But honestly.

This week in class, we explored the throat chakra. Not as an idea, but as an experience.

Because the throat chakra is not just about speaking.

It’s about whether there is space for your truth to exist at all.

From Safety to Expression

At the beginning of class, I shared that we were stepping into the upper chakras.

Last week, we worked with the heart. The center.

Now we move upward. Into expression.

But expression doesn’t stand on its own.

It’s supported by everything that came before it.

At the root, we explored safety.

At the sacral, feeling.

At the solar plexus, strength.

At the heart, openness.

From there, we ask:

Can I express what is true?

Because honest expression needs a foundation.

It’s harder to speak if you don’t feel safe.

If you’re disconnected from what you feel.

If you don’t trust your own strength.

If your heart is closed.

When those layers are supported, something shifts.

Your voice doesn’t have to push.

It can simply reflect what is already there.

What is the Throat Chakra?

The throat chakra relates to expression, communication, and truth.

It is also connected to the element of space.

Before something can be expressed, there has to be room for it.

Space in the body.

Space in the breath.

Space in your awareness.

When the jaw is tight, the neck is tense, or the breath is held, expression doesn’t move freely.

Not because you don’t have something to say.

But because there isn’t room for it to come through.

Not Just Speaking. Listening.

At the beginning of class, I asked:

How open are you to speaking your truth?

Do you feel safe expressing your voice?

And how are you with listening?

Because communication is about receiving.

Listening without preparing your response.

Hearing something fully before reacting.

Expression and listening live in the same space.

Releasing What We Hold

We started simply.

Tapping the jaw, neck, temples, and back of the neck.

Not fixing. Just loosening.

Then Lion’s Breath - which can feel awkward at first. That’s part of it. Pushing through that awkwardness to let the energy move.

Many of us are used to controlling how we sound.

Making it smaller. More acceptable.

Lion’s Breath interrupts that.

It lets something move through without editing.

When we express our voice, we move energy & release.

Letting Your Voice Be Heard

Throughout the class, I encouraged people to let their voice be heard.

Through breath. Through sound.

To hum.

To sigh.

Not to perform.

Not to sound good.

But to express.

Because the habit for many of us is not silence.

It’s holding back.

Softening. Filtering. Questioning.

This practice invites the opposite.

Let your voice come through.

And beyond the class, carry that into your week.

Let your voice be heard in small ways.

Even to sing, if it feels available.

Not for anyone else.

Just as a way of practicing expression.

Sound as Practice

We worked with sound in a few ways.

Lion’s Breath to release. Returning to it later, noticing what had shifted.

And finally, humming.

A simple hum on the exhale.

Feeling the vibration in the throat, chest, and face.

Letting it start strong, then soften.

Until it fades.

A Different Kind of Alignment

We often think of alignment as physical.

But there’s another kind.

Alignment between what you feel and how you express it.

Between what is true and what you allow yourself to say.

This practice is about being honest with what is already there.

A Simple Invitation

When working with the throat chakra, notice:

Where do you feel open in your expression?

Where do you hold back?

Are you listening as much as you are speaking?

What might it feel like to let your voice come through, just a little more?

Not to force anything.

Just to allow.

Because your voice doesn’t need to be louder.

It needs to be true.

Looking Ahead

If the throat chakra is about expressing what is true,

the next step is learning to see clearly what is true.

Next week, we move into the third eye chakra, located slightly above the space between the eyebrows.

From expression
into awareness.

From speaking
into seeing.

From voice
into insight.

Where the question evolves from:

Can I express what is true?

Into:

Can I recognize it?
